West Thirty Six

West Thirty Six

One of my absolute favourite little pockets of London, Golborne Road, where you can enjoy brunching on a weekend at the likes of Bluebelles Cafe and Pizza East Portobello, has a new addition – West Thirty Six.

Led by Head Chef Rex Newmark, this rambling three -storey townhouse sits on the road just up from Westbourne Park tube and has a vibe very similar to one of Andre Balazs’ properties. Downstairs, it’s all Chiltern Firehouse-style cream booths and copper pans, with the centrepiece being a wrap-around bar where you can prop up for drinks or a full blown dinner.

Upstairs is home to a cosier dining room feel and an outdoor terrace, and potentially one of the best nooks in a pub I’ve ever seen – this bar/snug area of the first floor was where we sat and didn’t leave for the next four hours.

This was our view for the afternoon, catching up, reading the weekend papers and getting excited about what to order…

Food is a relatively simple affair on a weekend brunch, but perfect none the less – eggs? You got it. Massive roast? You got it. Whole chicken? Sure. I plumped for the chicken and D went for the eggs.

The little snug that became our haven for that afternoon also had it’s own bar and so we took full advantage and tried a couple of their ‘re-imagined’ drinks – I plumped for the Apple and Cinnamon G&T and D went for one of the Virgin Mules. The cinnamon stick added a hint of spice to the drink but otherwise it pretty much tasted like a gin and tonic…(not that there is anything wrong with that!).

On Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights there’s also a DJ on the third floor so a great option if you want to hire out an area for a birthday party or event. One brilliant little idea they do have is that if you buy a bottle of drink and don’t finish it, they pop it in a locked cabinet and give you the key for next time – brilliant. That little touch sums up the vibe of the place in that it’s managed to create a friendly, neighbourhood feel very much in keeping with its fellow Golborne Road neighbours.

If you’re ever in West London and looking for a place to go, I’m pretty confident that West Thirty Six should be your first point of call for brunch, lunch or weekend drinks. You can follow them on social media @westthirtysix to check menus and book a table. Enjoy!

We were there a few weeks ago for dinner, absolutely loved it. SO happy West London continues to have more good places to eat and hang out. Have you come across Shikumen in the Dorsett hotel in Shepberds Bush? It’s meant to do amazing dim sum – gonna be checking it out soon 🙂
