Brunch at Bluebelles of Portobello

Brunch is without a doubt my favourite meal of the day. Sadly, as it’s restricted to weekends due to the 9-5, it means since I’ve arrived in London I’ve felt the need to go all out and hunt out the best brunch spots in London. Notting Hill has some great finds – The Electric does the best full english and milkshakes in town and for a local buzz, head to Raoul’s on Talbot Road.

This Saturday, however, I fell in love when I visited Bluebelles of Portobello after stumbling across it after a long walk up Portobello Road. It’s gorgeous. All exposed brick, fairy lights, cute fresh flowers in vases and the words ‘POSH BRUNCH’ emblazoned on the window.

The boy and our friend Tash and I, settled on a table by the window and oogled the menu on the huge blackboard with hungry eyes. Everything looked pretty delicious but Tash and I were drawn to the bacon sarnie (a steal at only £5) and the boy plumped for Eggs Benedict with a flat white.

Whilst ordering at the till, I was also distracted by the fresh baguettes too…(another excuse to come back for lunch!)

The bacon sarnie came out accompanied by a steaming mug of fresh Breakfast Tea. As far as bacon sarnies go, this one was pretty damn good looking – all french farmhouse sourdough bread, thick back bacon slices and cute homemade pot of tomato ketchup with a hint of tobasco and fresh cherry toms.

The boy’s Eggs Benedict was ‘bloody tasty’, I’m reliably informed, although apparently the eggs were a tad overdone – so if you head down and like your benedict runny, maybe request when ordering.

Suitably stuffed, we pottered across the food (and stumbled across the equally pretty cafe Lowry and Baker, which I need to try next time) and I picked up some fresh roses from the flower shop for the flat.

I will absolutely be back numerous times  – thank you Bluebelles, you’re a delight.

What are your top brunch spots?
