DIRTY BONES

“Hot dogs with a touch of Heston” – London Evening Standard

I’ve always loved hotdogs, so to hear that they had now gone ‘gourmet’ at a restuarant right down the road from us (with the chef who trained in the Fat Duck kitchen), D and I were delighted when we were kindly invited down to check it out.

DIRTY BONES is pretty easy to miss if you’re powering down Kensington Church Street and not paying attention. Hotdog stall by day, it’s a fabulous, buzzy cocktail den/bar and restuarant by night – you just enter through this small side door…

The place is suprisingly big when you enter, a rabbit warren of quirky decor, gorgeous tiling and lighting and a pumping soundtrack. D and I were instantly drawn in by the friendly staff and shown to our table.

Now onto the good stuff – the menu. Dirty Bones are keeping it simple and effective; there’s a nice range of choices for the Hot Dogs and also offers Ribs, Chicken or Steak should you fancy something a bit different. The hotdog ordering is based on picking an option and then choosing either Pork, Beef or Veggie hotdog. The sides range from charred peppers, to Mac and Cheese to Fries or charred sweetcorn.

The cocktails are also worth a mention as there is a lengthy menu of these too – I plumped for the delicious Top Dog and D went for a Negroni.

D and I had a great time scoffing our choice of hotdogs – mine the Mexican with a pork hotdog, D plumping for the Bavette steak dog. Both were utterly delicious and went well with our choice of sides (3 x sides between 2 of you is more than enough). We were also lucky enough to try their chicken dish, which was so tasty we devoured the whole plate before I could get a photo!

Puddings are also super simple – you get either a ‘Coffee and a Doughnut’ or ‘Milk and a Cookie’ – these drinks come out as chilled gelatos which is ingenious (the Chef’s background seems to play a role here) and alongside the delicious cookie and doughnut it’s the perfect way to end your meal.

DIRTY BONES is a really brilliant new addition to Notting Hill/High Street Ken area (we’ve already been back again in the last week). Not only is it a delicious meal, it’s also affordable, a good place to just go for drinks in the bar area, or come and listen to their live music on Sunday nights. They take reservations for over 6 people (otherwise just turn up and wait for a table, it isn’t usually a long wait) – all info here on their website. Looking for a place for your next birthday celebration? This is the place.
