Celebration dinner at Five Fields

Now I know it’s a big statement to make…but here goes. This may be the best meal I’ve ever had in my life.

I can’t even really compare it to the taste of fresh fish and chips on the beach back home in Guernsey on Cobo Bay, as this is in a league of its own. It’s fine dining, but in an accessible way, that just tastes incredibly delicious. D and I aren’t huge fancy restaurant-types you see. Rather than spend an evening at The Ledbury, we prefer to scoff hotdogs at Dirty Bones or eat obnoxiously long pizzas with prosecco at Pizza Metro Pizza. But when we were treated to an amazing late celebratory engagement dinner by our roomies for the month, Tash and Stu, we were floored by how much we enjoyed this incredible little place.

Five Fields

Quietly nestled away on an unassuming road off the Kings Road in Chelsea, Five Fields is a small restaurant that focuses on contemporary, seasonally focused and ingredient-led dishes. They also have some of the best cocktails you can find in London in their tiny upstairs bar (which is the size of my bedroom!) Very cosy.

The menu for each day can be different as it’s ingredient dependent, but here is a snapshot of the tasting menu we were treated to for our visit.

The incredibly delicate starters are brought out as you fuss over the menu and wine choices – packing an insane amount of flavour into such a small dish. The crab tartlets were particularly exquisite. Then to follow, you’re brought out all of your 7 courses, each one explained to you by the lovely and attentive waiters, with enough time in between each round to digest, chat and enjoy the paired wines.

(Above: Tash and I realising our tops just happened to match the tiles (sort of) – so of course this called for a photo opp…!)

We ate everything from Tartare and Onion crumble, to Scottish Langoustines, to Beetroot done seven ways to a cheese course in the middle to Lamb and Pistachios….the list goes on. We were in the restaurant for over 4 hours and it was the most brilliant, lingeringly enjoyment meal. It’s definitely not cheap, so save this for a truly special occasion as we did, but I can’t recommend enough! Do let me know if you go or have been as would love to compare favourite courses.

Bon Appetit lovely readers!

Looks stunning! ( I did giggle that one of your party decided to raise the middle finger on the cocktail photo, boys will be boys… )
