Marylebone really is one of my favourite parts of London and it’s never prettier than at this time of year, with the Christmas lights twinkling in St Christopher’s Place and the festive decorations adorning the stylish shop fronts of Marylebone High Street.
A couple of weeks ago, my sister and I decided to make a little weekend of exploring this pocket of the city and combine with a spot of wedding dress shopping for her very exciting upcoming nupitals!
We checked in to No.10 Manchester Street Hotel, located in the epicentre of Marylebone (being a literal stones throw from Chiltern Firehouse, the Farmer’s Market and the High Street) ready to walk, eat and explore. Continue reading for some snaps from our weekend discovering this charming part of London and for some recommendations on where to eat, shop and drink if you’re looking to spend some time and fall in love with the village-like feel of the area.
Marylebone High Street is dotted with incredible shops, from BASH Paris to Daunt Books to The White Company to Anthropologie and many, many more.
For fellow foodies there’s a whole host of options. On a weekend go and discover Marylebone Farmer’s Market for top produce, flowers and fresh food stalls or why not head for brunch at Pachamama – a favourite Peruvian spot in London for the very best sweet potato waffles. If Italian food is your bag, try Il Barretto or Harry’s restaurant. The Ivy Cafe is perfect for a dose of delicious British fare or I adore Le Relais de Venise for the classic steak frites and a bottle of red. If you’re looking for a spot to stock up on some incredible organic food shopping, make sure you swing by Daylesford Organic or the Fromagerie – both which also have cafes inside where once you’re all shopped out, you can relax with a coffee and a bite to eat.
No Ten Manchester Street manages to be quaint yet imposingly grand at the same time and is a gorgeous, friendly-run boutique hotel consisting of 44 bedrooms that should be on your list if you’re looking to stay in the area. There is a restaurant in the hotel as well as a bar (complete with its own humidor room!) and a lovely little terrace nestled away at the back. We enjoyed a lovely glass of wine before heading round the corner for late night cocktails and chats at another local favourite – Chiltern Firehouse. Breakfast in bed the following morning to soothe the slight hangovers made the perfect accompaniment to an early morning Friends marathon, with delicious scrambled eggs and pancakes being just what the doctor ordered.
Make sure Marylebone is on your list to explore if you haven’t already. It’s so central – a short ten minute walk from Oxford Circus – and has so much to offer. You can book in for a stay at No Ten Manchester Street here.
