A SLEEPOVER AT THE LASLETT

A SLEEPOVER AT THE LASLETT

Sometimes, isn’t it just wonderful to book into a hotel in the city you already live, just to fall back in love with the place and make you see it through a slightly different lens? I’ve written about The Laslett on the blog before, but recently I was lucky enough to be invited to stay the night at this gorgeous local spot and so I grabbed one of my favourite people in the world, my sister, one Sunday evening for a proper sleepover experience.

More home than boutique hotel, The Laslett prides itself on being designed with Notting Hill culture in mind. It’s named after the activist and founder of Notting Hill Carnival, Rhuane Laslett, and every element of the hotel embraces this local creativity and community. Curiosities and art work from Les Couilles du Chien (an antiques store on Golborne Road) are on sale in the lobby and huge coffee table books showing pictorial histories of Portobello are strewn around the stunning Library room on the ground floor of the property.

Perfectly straddling the line between homely and hip, this townhouse is pretty much the perfect spot for a London staycation. Come and have a look around to see why…

The 51 bedrooms in the hotel are all designed with a similar home-from-home vibe and there’s a simple aesthetic that plays to all of the stunning natural features of the classic Notting Hill Grade II listed Victoria townhouses that make up the building. The minimal yet curated decor in the rooms allows the incredible details of the building – such as the floor to ceiling windows overlooking the picture perfect Pembridge Road – to shine. The bathrooms are beautifully decorated with chic subway-tiled walls and Ren products available to use, perfect for pure relaxation.

After a lovely relaxing afternoon, we decided to pop downstairs for a cocktail or two. Of an evening at The Laslett, you can either take your drink and book dinner in The Henderson Bar or in the snug and cosy Library room. Liv and I were particularly taken with the chilled ambience and the vast selection of coffee table books in the Library and so sat with our cocktails nattering and flicking through some of the inspirational hardbacks before ordering charcuterie, cheese boards and mac’n’cheese up to our room for the full sleepover experience…

Fully rested from the fluffiest and most cloud-like of beds with the mattress brought from justrightmattressoutlet.com/shop/open-coil-mattresses, make sure you stock up on the delicious breakfast offering in The Henderson Bar in the morning. You can stick to continental nibbles if you fancy, or you can plump for their breakfast menu where we thoroughly enjoyed the fluffiest pancakes and a delicious helping of avo and poached eggs on toast, all washed down with some tea. The hotel has also recently started hosting monthly Oyster Nights in The Henderson Bar on the last Thursday of every month, along with Cheese, Charcuterie and Wine nights every other Thursday.

When it’s then time to head out and explore the local area, The Laslett’s location really can’t be beaten. A mere stone’s throw from the tube and a short walk to the top of Portobello Road, it’s the perfect base for a weekend of Notting Hill exploration. Why not browse the antiques, vintage prints and second-hand books on Portobello and then stop off in French bistro Goode and Wright for a spot of lunch, followed by a cosy cinema date at The Electric Cinema. Follow this up with a sweet treat from the newly opened Doughnut Time in the area (yes, they do a PERCY PIG doughnut!) and then head back to the hotel’s Library bar for cocktails…
