With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, I’ve found a wonderful little date spot tucked away just off High Street Kensington. For all you fellow sushi lovers out there, let me introduce you to Yashin. With a completely fresh, innovative and fairly consise menu, this authentic sushi bar specialises in the flavour and quality of the ingredients alone, doing their sushi ‘without soy sauce’ (unless of course you really do want it).
With a sleek decor, it’s an impressive date spot and really feels like a little hidden find amongst the many eateries of Kensington and Notting Hill – if you want to feel like a real local then head here. There’s an impressive sake drinks menu, along with some great cocktail options; I plumped for this Elderflower and Champagne one, completely delicious and refreshing.
Pretty much all of your food is cooked in front of you and it’s fascinating in itself to watch the chefs work so delicately (great chat too if you’re on a date and you need a conversation topic!).
Throughout the meal we were treated to delicious flavour after delicious flavours. A little mussel with tomato salsa was brought out as a starter to warm up the taste buds and this was followed by perfectly warm salted edamame (I could eat this stuff all day long). I would recommend trying one of their plates of the day – the chef chooses 8 pieces of sushi and then one fresh roll and these are whatever they have in that day. Our plate was honestly the best sushi I’ve eaten and I would go back again and again for the grouper with truffle on top. We also plumped to try one of the tempura prawns and some of the beef sushi rolls, all washed down with a miso soup cappuccino…
You can find the details for YASHIN below – they have this particular intimate restaurant in High Street Kensington and another branch in South Kensington. If you’re a sushi fan I couldn’t recommend this little hidden gem enough – a lovely spot to take the parents for a slap up dinner when they’re in town, or to treat that special someone if you want to impress.
Let me know if you head down and if you enjoy it – and a Happy Valentine’s Day! Any great London sushi joints I’m missing out on?
