The Big Apple has some of my very favourite shopping in the whole world. From mooching around Chelsea Market for a new book amongst the hustle and bustle of the food stalls, to pretending you’re Carrie Bradshaw weaving in and out of the boutiques of the West Village. To enjoying the glamour of the oh-so-famous department stores such as Bergdorf’s or Henri Bendel in Midtown, to exploring the designer boutiques of Nolita and Soho where you will find Celine next to a stunning independent candle shop – New York really is the ultimate in retail therapy.
We didn’t particularly plan shopping into our trip this time but I had earmarked certain stores I wanted to pop in to, which in turn allowed us to explore the areas and find other hidden gems; a couple of which I just have to tell you about for when you’re next in NYC…
First up it’s The Apartment by The Line. If like me you’re a fan of interior design, or a bit of a property obsessive generally and just the love the idea of snooping around other people’s incredible houses (I mean who doesn’t?!), then a visit to The Apartment is a must.
Located on Greene Street, this brilliant conceptual store has taken an incredible open-plan apartment in Soho and curated all of it’s products into a general domestic setting. You go up the lift and the door takes you right into what looks like someone’s impeccable apartment – but in fact this is just a really gorgeous store and even better, you can buy literally anything you see. We spent a good half an hour in here imagining this could be our flat, picking up tiny items to buy and examining little parts of the place for inspiration; come and have a look inside for yourself…
You can find the opening hours here if you want to pop by – I highly recommend a visit. You can also follow their instagram too for constant style and home inspiration.
I also fell in love with a tiny fragrance shop called MiN on Crosby Street. You feel like you’ve stepped into a different time period when you open the doors and this upscale boutique features rare fragrances from around the world, along with bespoke his-&-hers grooming products. This would be a great place for a little present for yourself or for a friend/loved one into fragrance, candles or beauty. You can also buy online too so check their site above.
I constantly get inspired by the visual merchandising in certain stores too and even if you’re not buying anything, sometimes it’s just great to browse as a source of inspiration isn’t it. Other notable stores I’d recommend popping into:
Kate Spade on Broome Street
Celine and Chloe in Soho (just for handbag perving)
The Anthropologie opposite the Top of the Rock entrance in midtown for all homeware, beauty and general gorgeous browsing
One of my favourite bookshops – McNally Jackson on Prince Street
And last but not least, if you’re a fellow shoe lover, you can’t leave Manhattan without having at least popped into the most famous shoe shop synonymous with the city thanks to a certain TV show; Manolo Blahnik HQ (we may just have hop, skipped and jumped into here where I left with my own little treat too; when in Rome right?!)
Pop me an email or leave me a comment here or on social media if you’ve got any other must-do shopping in the City, I’m always looking to add more places to my ever growing list!
