Copenhagen for foodies

Copenhagen for foodies

Now for the fun part…Copenhagen has an incredible array of food and drink venues and not to mention, the third best restaurant in the WORLD.

Our experience of the city was a little more low-key than the fine dining establishments such as Noma and Amass but delicious all the same. Below is a selection of places i’d recommend should you find yourself in the Danish capital any time soon…

First up on your whistlestop tour of the city’s dining haunts has to be Copenhagen Street FoodSet in a huge one level warehouse on Papeiron island just opposite to Nyhavn Port, it’s a gorgeous ensemble of over 33 stalls of food and drinks – you can pick up everything from fresh fish, asian curries, authentic fish and chips, homemade french croque monsieurs, cakes, coffee served in kitsch caravans or local ales and gins. Grab whatever takes your fancy and sit in the sun on one of the deck chairs overlooking the rest of the harbour – bliss.

Frenchy is a real local find – a teeny breakfast place with typical French fare on offer.

Mother is a must. Located in the Meatpacking District (Copenhagen’s answer to Hackney), it’s got queues up the block – which is always a good sign. It’s an Italian that gets the basics just right – great wine, perfect antipasti and even better pizzas. It reminded me of the vibe of Roberta’s in Brooklyn.

After all that pizza, you’ll need to refuel so head to Lidkoeb for drinks. This was our favourite place on the whole trip as if you head up to the third floor of the bar you’ll find the Whiskey Den where there are hundreds of whiskeys on offer for you, served by the nicest barmen we’ve ever met.

Another good hangover brunch option is The Laundromat Cafe. I’d been to the one in Reykjavik and wanted to check out the home town of the chain – anywhere with a bar length colour coordinated bookshelf filled with Penguin classics is a winner in my eyes. It’s also actually a working laundromat too so great people watching of the chic Danish locals as you enjoy your eggs and pancakes.

I’ll end my recommendations with another Danish classic – Sticks’N’SushiWe were told about this place by a friend and were delighted with the gorgeous food, cocktails and setting. Swing on one of the giant chairs as you wait for you dinner and then soak up all the delicious small places with an after-dinner cocktail on the stylish roof terrace overlooking the city.  Christiania Copenhagen 5Copenhagen Street Food 7 Copenhagen Street Food 3 Copenhagen Street Food 6 Copenhagen Street Food Copenhagen Street Food 1 Copenhagen Street Food 5 Copenhagen Street Food 4 Frenchy Copenhagen Brunch at Frenchy's Copenhagen Mother Copenhagen Pizza 2 Mother Copenhagen Pizza 4 Mother Copenhagen Pizza 3 Mother Copenhagen Pizza 5 Mother Copenhagen Pizza Mother Copenhagen Pizza 1 Lidkoeb Copenhagen Sticks and Sushi Tivoli Hotel Copenhagen Sticks and Sushi Tivoli Hotel Copenhagen 2 Sticks and Sushi Tivoli Hotel Copenhagen 1photo 2-31 photo 1-31Laundromat Cafe Copenhagen Laundromat Cafe Copenhagen 2

Nyde dit måltid! (That’s Bon Appetit in Danish don’tchaknow…)

Have you been to any other places I need to add onto my list for next time?

You should of course try Sticks’n’Sushi in London too (there’s 4)
