Now, Soho isn’t exactly short of good eateries. BUT that’s not to say there isn’t room for another one. Enter – Blacklock.
Priding itself on a deliciously simple concept of just knowing how to do really good chops, don’t come here if you’re a vegetarian because it’s really all about the meat (in the best possible way). Pork chop, lamb chop, veal chop, beef chop – it’s all for the taking.
After being explained the menu by the friendly waiter and getting our order in of the Grandma’s Spiked Lemonade and Nettle Gimlets (super reasonable for central Soho location at a fiver for each cocktail), we settled to order the ‘All In’ platter – giving us a taster of all of the pre-chop bite appetisers and then each of the ‘skinny’ chops with a variety of sides. First up, it was the appetisers….little delicate morsels of blue cheese and pickle (our fave), ham sat on top of a dollop of beef dripping and egg with anchovy. YUM.
Then our platter arrived. Is there a better sight for a meal on a night out with the girls? We got stuck right in…
The chops were delicious (with the beef and the lamb being our favourite) but I think the sides were the winner here actually, incredibly tasty baked sweet potato and roasted courgettes positively oozing with flavour. The barbecued baby gem lettuce and Kale with Parmesan was delicious. But the piece de resistance is probably the flatbread that the chops sit on…laced with garlic and saturated with all of the leftover flavour from the chops, this is the quite possibly THE best bread I’ve ever tasted (and this comes from someone who has been to France, the ultimate home of bread, a LOT).
Now I haven’t forgotten about dessert – this comes in the form of one simple option and that night it was simply White Chocolate Cheesecake. I don’t think my picture does it justice but this was an exCEPtionally delicious cheesecake…
Bravo Blacklock on a great new addition to the Soho eating scene – will be back for seconds and thirds and fourths.
You can’t make a reservation in the evenings but you shouldn’t have to wait too long – plus you can enjoy one of the cocktails while you wait! You CAN however book a table for lunch if you’re impatient and want to secure a seat. A great choice for a birthday evening, catch ups with a group of friends or an informal date place. It also has the best playlist in town.
You’ll find Blacklock hidden away down in the basement of 25 Great Windmill Street, a stones throw from Piccadilly Circus. All other information here on their website, and you can follow them on Twitter and Instagram @Blacklocksoho.
