The Little Yellow Door Pop-Up

“It’s our house, your party” – The Flatmates

Behind an unassuming door in West London lies The Little Yellow Door; a pop-up that has recently been unleashed on the capital, housed in the former Blagclub Notting Hill and adding a much needed spot to the area’s nightlife.

If you love a good house party, then this is the place for you. Cosy, welcoming, creating a feeling like you’re chilling at your mates with a movie on (but also able to drink cocktails and have a gossip!) The Little Yellow Door has effectively managed to style itself as a real living room – down to the shoes at the front door and the chalkboard notice board with the ‘flatmates’ shopping list….

The place is the mastermind of five friends who are all in the pop-up food business in London and who have all come together to run the club as ‘Flatmates’. Open three nights a week, Thursdays and Saturdays are the house party, with a DJ and cocktails – or a slurp of their house punch.

But I popped along on a Friday night to experience their inaugral dinner party. Fridays in the house are now ticketed dinner parties up until 9:30pm, where it then turns into drinks and general merriment (as per the other evenings).

For £35 a ticket, you’ll be treated to a cocktail on arrival (using a piece of lego as your currency!) and 4 delicious courses of sharing food. With all food prepared by the hands of the brilliant The Wandering Chef, you’re in good company. The flatmates will have a theme for each dinner party and ours was French food (the French flatmate Pierre had come up with this week’s menu).

The house punch is a great touch and the other drinks are served in inventive ways, whether it be from a milk bottle, tea cup, sharing cocktails in a blender or other random kitchen accessories.

I took my two girlfriends Tash and Laura, and we settled down at one end of the table chatting away and  introducing ourselves to our new table mates. The guys have done a great job creating a real feel of a cosy dinner party, despite being sat by strangers. The food is incredibly share-able and we were treated to everything from pork rilette, smoked duck and roast chicken  / foie gras mousse to begin, all alongside French Charcuterie with Mustard sauce. Celeriac Veloute came up next served in a large mug with shredded duck and brown shrimp. The main event of slow cooked shoulder of lamb was cooked to perfection, served alongside the best Potato Dauphinoise I’ve ever had the pleasure of tasting!

Following dinner, the room is then quickly turned around to get rid of the tables and replaced with sofas in the lounge for the next wave of people to come in who have booked tables for drinks. This process was fairly seamless as we all made the opportunity to prop up the bar for another delicious cocktail and to scoff the final course of Petit Fours (which included Calvados Fudge and chocolate salted praline tartines).

If you’re looking to come for drinks, a tip would be to book the private tree house area; it’s perfect for larger groups (up to 12) and is a cute space nestled in a mini conservatory that’s kitted out with board games and other fun things to make you feel really at home.

The thing about great pop-ups is that sometimes they don’t hang around, but TLYD has a longer shelf-life and will be with us for at least the next 6 months so make sure you book in now for a night ‘in’!

I’ll certainly be back – I’m angling for my face on one of the mugs on display behind the bar (which are given out to regulars); if you become a real regular though, they even give you your very own door key…

All info can be found HERE on their website – and they are also the first restaurant to take bookings via whatsapp!
