Last week, I was lucky enough to be invited to the first annual party for the launch of the new Battersea Power Station – which, if you’re not already aware, is undergoing a huge transformation to turn the iconic fixture of London’s growing skyline into a shopping complex, high-end flats and all round awesome new addition to the area of Battersea.
This party, organised by the brilliant Adoreum group, was a no-expense-spared taster of what’s to come from the expansion – everywhere you looked there was acrobats, Hendricks gin pop-up seating areas, taster food stalls from some of the best names and companies of London’s booming foodie scene along with London’s socialites and business elite mingling with Game of Thrones cast members, the best of the UK’s sport stars and Hollywood actors.
D and I met up with our friends and began excitingly sampling the incredible food on offer – making sure we got our fill before the musical entertainment for the evening began. My favourites were the Bleecker Street Burgers (which I’d heard a.mazing things about) and they didn’t disappoint with their cheeseburger sliders, closely followed by Anna Mae’s Mac and Cheese, which I swilled down with my Hendricks and tonic (their pop-up stall was officially my mecca).
Feeling suitably full and grabbing a couple glasses of champers from the Moet bar, we made our way into the ‘arena’ for the big part of the evening – performances from the incredible Tom Odell and then the man, the legend…. Sir Elton John. Hearing Elton play the likes of Your Song and Tiny Dancer to the intimate crowd of just 1,000 people for his 90 minute set, standing only 2 metres away, was a truly special moment that I will always remember.
Finishing the festivities off in style, the evening ended with a spectacular light show making the most of the iconic building us Londoners know and love. Along with celebrating the exciting possibilities of the new development, the night was most importantly all in aid of four charities and so we made sure to make our donations to one of my favourites, Battersea Dogs and Cats Home. For more information on the new development, you can read all about it here.
