London in the sunshine really is the best, and so to celebrate the second sunny sunday in March, D and I grabbed our shades and mango frappuccinos and headed further west on the district line to Richmond.
If you’re yet to visit Richmond, a gorgeous little village situated on the Thames, then you really, really should (especially when the sun is shining)…
We pottered along the riverside, admiring the rowers in the water and the painters and musicians on the paths and made our way to one of our favourite little London spots – Petersham Nurseries.
Petersham Nurseries is a gorgeous little place, effectively a garden centre that has also been hijacked by the west london crowd and turned into a wonderful restaurant (for slightly more formal food) and a Teashop and Cafe if you don’t want to pre-book. It’s the perfect place to while away a couple of hours – even the walk there is worth your while. About a 25 minute stroll along the river bank from Richmond mainline station, you can admire the views as you head across the meadow to the Nurseries – feeling miles away from the City smog…
We were starving after a pretty heavy night at The Rum Kitchen the night before (!) and so headed straight for the Cafe for a carb-filled lunch. I plumped for the veggie pasta dish with aubergine and courgette along with a sparkling elderflower, and D went for the ham and mushroom quiche and a cuppa. Both our dishes came with a fresher than fresh green salad. Heaven. The menu changes on a daily and weekly basis so there’s always something new and delicious to try.
Post-lunch and sunday paper reading, we pottered around the shop before making our way back. It’s filled with gorgeous furniture, plants, crockery and everything in between and I managed to restrain myself from trying to buy the whole shop!
If you’re next in this part of the world, I strongly recommend a visit to this gorgeous little gem of a place and a real refuge from the city. Petersham Nurseries is open every day of the week (with the Teahouse closed on a Monday). Hope you all managed to make the most of the sunshine!

Thank you for these lovely shots of spring! Here in the northeast corner of the States, we are still blanketed in snow – this post makes me hopeful that blooming flowers and warmer days are just around the corner!

So pretty, I love Richmond, and despite being in West London we don’t go there nearly as often as I’d like, although now that the sun has hopefully returned we will definitely have to get down there soon!
