I’d like to share with you one of my favourite places in the entire world. Working in film and TV publicity, I’m lucky enough to watch my fair share of movies in advance before they hit the big screen, but there is still nothing better than spending a wee bit more for a ticket on a weekend afternoon in a decadent cinema watching a movie you are really excited about. Now, London has it’s far share of fabulous cinemas, but for me there is one that pips the post if you are really looking for a special occasion (as it’s not cheap!)
Taking pride of place on Portobello Road, the Electric Cinema (sadly subject to a fire last year) is now back and better than ever.
Upon entering, you know you’re in for a treat with the kitsch little sweet bar greeting you in the lobby, with £3.50 getting you a nice chunk of sweet treats. Then you head into the actual cinema and it will make you never want to sit in a regular Odeon or Vue ever again…just look at those seats…the legroom, the plush velvet cushions and the cute little table lamps adding an instant cosiness to the room.
Probably my favourite part of the whole experience (which comes at a price at around £18 a ticket and £30 for a shared sofa), is the little bar at the back of the room. Here you can treat yourself to a soft drink or a glass of wine or g&t, but ALSO some amazing grub – including a mini cheese platter with grapes and crackers! If fromage isn’t your thing, you can also try some of the nachos and homemade salsa and guacamole or freshly baked sausage rolls. Heavenly.
This time we were watching The Wolf of Wall Street – a rollicking, fun comedy based on the fascinating true story of one Jordan Belfort, a man living the stock brokers dream of the 1990’s after making $22 million dollars at the age of 22, charting his rise and fall as he moves his way around Wall Street, never quite on the right side of the law. As ever, Leo DiCaprio puts in a strong and committed performance in the title role with some great performances from the likes of Jonah Hill and Matthew McConaughey in a small cameo that steals the film in the first 20 minutes. Highly recommend! People can check out multi asset broker, for the best brokers and their advice.
Now I’ll also let you into one more thing before I go, if you get a bit chilly, lift up your footbox to find an individual blanket for you to nestle up in. Here’s the WEBSITE for all info on film times and prices – the tickets do sell out pretty quickly for anticipated films so best to follow them on Twitter for heads up on when booking lines open.
If you fancy food or drinks before/after, you can also head next door to the sister restaurant THE DINER (the Le Fizz cocktails come highly recommended). Enjoy!

Looks good! Haven’t been in here to see a film yet, but your photo with the sofas has convinced me it’s time to do so
