Happy New Year readers!
The start of a new year always calls for reflection – thoughts are spent on what went right/wrong in the previous year and resolutions and promises are made for the start of a new one.
For me, 2014 is a year to be excited, to constantly keep learning and to enjoy the moments – sometimes, it really is the little things that make you happy. Whilst lounging in front of the fire during Christmas back home in Guernsey a few days ago now, I found myself on Pinterest being inspired by words and phrases to live by – one of which particularly struck me:
You remember life in snapshots, like a montage of images and feelings. And so I love this phrase for helping me remember it’s the moments that count – you have to go out there and make things happen to bank some amazing memories. Here’s a little of what I’m excited about in 2014;
MAKING LISTS:
I don’t know about you, but I just love making lists. I will always find an excuse to buy a new notebook to fill with my thoughts and dreams – and this year I’m sure will be no different! Whether it’s what I’m going to cook for dinner that week, a new restaurant or place I want to try in London, ideas for the blog or recommendations from friends on places to visit, lists make me happy. I’m also picking up learning my French again, so will no doubt be filling back-to-back pages with my language scribbles to eventually become conversational again in the language (a proper new year’s resolution).
WANDERLUST:
I am always, and always will be, completely inspired by the world. Travelling is one of the things in my life that is guaranteed to make me happy and this year, I’ve already planned some very exciting trips with friends, my wonderful boyfriend and family. Throughout 2014, I’ll be lucky enough to travel to Iceland, Skiing in Chamonix, Guernsey, South of France, Corsica and for a dream holiday of a road trip around California in October – I’ll be sure to keep you up-to-date with my travelling adventures. Let me know of anywhere amazing you have planned to visit? I’m always inspired by new places in the world to discover.
READING LIST:
As friends of mine and regular readers of this blog may know, I’m a bookworm. This year is no different and I’m starting off cold and rainy January with these books which I will review in the coming weeks…
ON THE BOX:
Working in the world of film and TV allows me to be lucky enough to get first-hand tips for up and coming film and TV. Here’s my pick of what to look out for this year entertainment-wise:
August; Osage County (film) // True Detective (TV show) // GIRLS Season 3 (TV show) // The Wolf of Wall Street (film)// Jamaica Inn (TV show) // 12 Years a Slave (film) // POSH (film) // Nymphomaniac (film) // Gone Girl (film) // Wolf Hall (TV show) // Monument’s Men (film) // Fleming (TV show)
WEDDINGS:
I have six weddings to attend this year! It’s become the time of my life when friends and loved ones are making that commitment to each-other and I am so excited to share these incredibly special days with all of them. From weddings in Chamonix, to Guernsey, to Oxford, to in and around London, I can’t wait for them all (and am already outfit planning of course!)
HEALTH:
Christmas this year brought me a LOT of cookbooks. Having a much larger kitchen in our new house, cooking is top of the agenda for me and I’m keen to experiment with healthy and delicious recipes from the likes of famous chefs to local bloggers who all provide me with daily inspiration. If you’re interested in foodie stuff too, I highly recommend this exquisite food blog MANGER from French Mimi Thorisson or this fantastic cookbook from Michel Roux Jr (for any fellow Masterchef lovers out there).
With healthy eating comes exercise and so I will also be indulging in some classes and actually attempting to make use of my gym membership (!). This year it’s Yoga and Legs, Bums and Tums classes for me. I also can’t wait to try Barretoned – a new ballet-based fitness class based locally on Chepstow Road (see here for more details on classes).
Hope you all have a wonderful year in store and here’s to enjoying the moments ahead in 2014. Have you got any great resolutions or plans coming up?
LMNH xx
