A night at The Shed

I’ve come across a new brilliant place I wanted to share with you. The Shed – located just off Notting Hill Gate on Palace Gardens Terrace is a delightful little restaurant that the boy and I popped round to for a mid-week dinner. We ended up sat next to Annie Lennox, tipsy on champagne and full to the brim of fresh Sussex produce – the perfect Tuesday evening?!

The Shed is the brainchild of Sussex-born Gladwin brothers, Oliver and Richard, who’s vision is to provide an extension of their rural lifestyle back in Nutbourne to the people of Notting Hill. Growing, foraging, great cooking and great company have always been the order of the day and this ethos has been brought to life here in this little pocket of West London.

As we were celebrating, we plumped for a couple of glasses of champagne (we went for their ‘Nutty’ variety) and chatted away enjoying the fizz sat at the upside down tractor bar, before being shown to our table. You can also sit in the lovely garden area and go just for a drink – their drinks menu changes daily and differs from Elderflower cocktails to Gooseberry fizz.

We were told by our friendly waiter that the menu was similar to tapas style eating and small plates of goodness were brought out for you – they recommend about 5 or 6 small plates between two. We opted for, amongst other things, some broad bean and garlic hummus with flatbreads, Sussex steak with caramelised veggies, ‘lamb chips’ and relish and fresh hunks of bread and butter and a plate of Nutbourne variety fresh tomatoes…here’s a little snapshot to whet your appetite (couldn’t resist a close up of the shredded lamb inside the ‘chips’ – SO delicious).

You can book a table relatively easily via their website or walk in off the street, but it does get very busy so would probably book a few days in advance if you can – we went on a Tuesday and it was RAMMED by 8.30pm. Pretty good going…

I have to flag the only negative thing is if you get one of the chairs with the red velvet top they aren’t the most comfortable, so would recommend one of the tables with the bench seating or sitting at the barrel table or outside. Prices aren’t cheap either, we paid about £80 for four glasses of champagne and 5 sharing dishes but the quality of the food and produce does justify the cost.

I will 100% be back and taking everyone with me! If you too fancy a night at The Shed, you can find all details on their website here.
