“You always look so cool” – F.Scott Fitzgerald
As a clever bit of pre-publicity for the already highly anticipated release of Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby, the lovely Muiccia Prada has released some sketches of the costumes that will grace the screen.
Being one of my favourite books of all time, featuring my favourite actor of all time (Leo DiCaprio), it’s safe to say that Luhrmann’s adaptation of Fitzgerald’s seminal work to the 3D screen comes “with breath that is baited”.
To add to the excitement, Prada’s costumes are exquisite and entirely in-keeping with the jazz age frivolity and lust for life that comes with the scandal of the story. With the clever experimentation of colour (blues, greens, bright orange), headpieces abound and flapper dresses galore, Prada was a genius choice for the styling of the film.
See below for the 4 designs released by the Prada group – and roll on the film’s official release in May. Oh to see Carey Mulligan sashay around on screen in these little numbers…perfection.

If you have been living under a rock for the last year, also see below for the film’s trailer:

Wow that was odd. I just wrote an really long comment but after I clicked submit my comment didn’t show up. Grrrr… well I’m not writing all that over again. Anyways, just wanted to say excellent blog!
I have been living under a rock and hadn’t seen the trailer – so thank you! Those costumes look amazing too. The Great Gatsby is one of my all-time favourite books, so I’m almost afraid to watch the film in case I don’t love it as much as the book.

I know ditto! But if it’s anywhere near as good as Romeo and Juliet we’ll be fine 🙂
