I’m lucky enough to be heading back to New York this week for work. In prep for another visit to one of my favourite cities, I thought i’d let you in to what I’ll be doing in advance, as I get ready for immersing myself in the Big Apple’s way of life…
- Re-reading Edith Wharton’s Age of Innocence
Set in upper class New York City of the 1870’s, Wharton became the first female writer to win the Pulitzer Prize with this book – her 12th novel. Questioning the morals of the upper class society of the time, it’s also a wonderful depiction of the era in the city, making a great comparison for then-and-now.
- Watching Season 2 of HBO’s Girls – my favourite show, set in my favourite city, by one of my favourite writer/performers; what better inspiration?
- Listening to Jay-Z. Quintessential Brooklyn.
I’ll be sure to blog about my short 4 day trip once back, letting you into the hidden NYC and Brooklyn finds I’m sure to come across on my trip.
