Postcards from Mykonos

Postcards from Mykonos

Mykonos is one of those places that you already have major assumptions about before you have even set foot on Greek soil. Thanks to Instagram and Pinterest, Mykonos has been immortalised in the images of the windmills and the breathtaking blue and white facades synomous with paradise.

I travelled to the island for the first time with my two best friends for a short break and the girls and I had some of the most enjoyable days of the year on this utterly gorgeous Greek island. This post is very delayed, but with a new year ahead and hopefully providing some travel inspiration for future trips, see below for some postcards from our Greek adventure last June as well as some tried and tested recommendations…it’s not a short post, so grab a cuppa and enjoy some wanderlusting!

Scorpios – my favourite place on the island and will be covering in a separate post as it deserves it’s own one!

Jackie O’s – SO much fun. Perfect for day or night, Jackie O’s is filled with handsome waiters, great tunes and incredible views. You must stay for the infamous drag act in the evenings!

180 Sunset Bar – we loved this spot to watch the sunset, set across the back walls of the Mykonos Castle overseeing the whole of the insane white views of the town.

Spilia Seaside restaurant – a beautiful little spot. It’s a restaurant that is perched on the edge of the rocks overlooking the water; food isn’t cheap but it’s absolutely delicious. Great for a girls dinner or book in for a candlelit dinner for the dreamiest of date nights.

Ling Ling – cute, exclusive spot for asian fusion food (it’s part of the Hakkasan family) and incredible cocktails.

Little Venice – this part of Mykonos town was my favourite. Head here for the views of the infamous windmills and for many an eatery / bar overlooking the ocean. Book a table at Caprice for delicious food and wine and people-watching into the evening.

Sea Satin Market – another spot we didn’t make it too this trip, but I have heard wonderful things about this simple local seafood restaurant that is right on the waters edge of the Town.

Nammos – expensive beachside restaurant that we didn’t make it too, but has been recommended by other friends. Just go with a full wallet as the prices are NOT for the faint hearted…!

Anax hotel – book a day bed at Anax. It’s surprisingly affordable to book a day pass at this incredible hotel with the most stunning infinity pool.

As there was three of us for this five day trip, we decided to rent an apartment and booked into the largest room at Eternal Suites. The apartment was perfect for our stay; clean, well located just above Mykonos town and with a ridiculously big terrace – perfect for sunset pre-drinks before our nights out or slightly hungover mornings when we’d sit out with a cuppa and gossip about the previous evening. Other gorgeous boutique hotels that we looked into staying at are Boheme and Rocabella, two places I’d love to tick off on my next visit.

As you can see, it’s safe to say my appetite has been whetted for Greece and I am adding further islands firmly on my ‘dream destinations to visit’ list…make sure Mykonos is on yours. Have I convinced you to book your flights yet?!
