A WEEKEND AT THE PIG

The Pig Near Bath

Last weekend, I spent a couple of days at a gorgeous boutique hotel in Somerset for some birthday celebrations with the hubby. The Pig has five hotels across the UK and we plumped for The Pig Near Bath, set in a Grade-II listed building from the 1820s surrounded by its own deer park and with a large kitchen garden. What more could you want for the perfect English countryside staycation?

On the way down through Somerset we stopped off in Bath first for a spot of lunch before arriving at this gorgeous hotel and looking forward to exploring the grounds…

One thing I’d read about The Pig was that everything about the place was pointed towards food – so after hearing this, it didn’t take much convincing to book in for the weekend! As massive foodies, Dan and I enjoyed spending time pottering around the extensive and unbelievable smelling veg garden, where everything from garlic, spring onions, fennel, other seasonal herbs and vegetables  service the kitchen where you’ll eat in the greenhouse restaurant for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Anything that can’t be grown onsite is sourced locally by the chefs within a 25 mile radius.

The hotel’s decor is authentic country house style with luxury touches to make it feel extra special; free-standing baths in the bedroom, complimentary Hunter wellies if you want to explore the grounds, pig shaped cookies with your drinks in the bar and a huge stack of the latest monthly magazines for you to cosy up and read. A spa is also on site, where you can relax in one of the secluded cabins and enjoy a range of treatments available.

If you want to explore the West Country and some of the incredible scenery that Somerset and the surrounding Mendip Hills have to offer, I highly recommend The Pig Near Bath as the perfect base and I know we’ll be adding some of the other Pig hotels to our travel list to visit in the future. You can book to stay online here – would love to hear from you if you’re also stayed here or at any of the other hotels!

Did you get a chance to try any of the spa treatments?
