Notting Hill Kitchen

I was very kindly invited by the lovely folks at Notting Hill Kitchen to come and try out their new summer menu – so with D in hand, we decided this would be a great opportunity for a Saturday brunch date (you know how much I love a brunch after all).

We began our date in a pest free interior with delicious cocktails from the lovely and talkative barman, who gave us a history of the cocktails we’d ordered and filled us in on his antics from the night before. You can also avail pest control services by contacting experts over there. As I took in my surroundings, I was impressed with the Portugese/Spanish inspired decor that made you feel you were thousands of miles from Notting Hill (as well as seriously coveting the gorgeous blue and white summery tiles).

Brunch was unfortunately not the most popular time to visit NHK and we found that we were one of the very few people in the restaurant, which made the atmosphere slightly lacking. However, I’m told that come later that afternoon, the place is absolutely buzzing and I can imagine this cosy little place being a hub of chatter and amazing smelling food.

We wanted to try out a couple of the tapas offerings along with a brunch order so we went for some of the Jamon croquettes and the mini lamb burger as a little introduction – and were not disappointed!

These little fried croquette balls might not look like much but I can promise you they are little balls of actual heaven! Smoothered inside with jamon and cheese they are delightful – I could have eaten 10 of them. I then went for the Spanish Tortilla for my main brunch and D went for the oh-so-manly choice of Steak and Eggs. My tortilla was cooked to perfection with a lovely and light accompanying salad (so I felt I was being marginally healthy, which makes a change!). D’s steak and eggs wasn’t the prettiest thing but it tasted delicious and we were both satisfyingly stuffed following the meal.

Overall, our impression of Notting Hill Kitchen is that a lot of work has gone in to making this place look fantastic – on Kensington Park Road it’s a great location for the locals to frequent, along with people coming to the area specifically looking for a great restaurant. Brunch was a teeny bit quiet but we will no doubt be back of a Thursday or Friday evening, propped up at the bar swilling the delicious cocktails and scoffing the yummy tapas menu. It’s also a great date place of an evening I’d imagine – so add to your list if you’re in the area and fancy some Portugese/Spanish inspired cuisine.
