When Mac Met Cheese: Pop Up

The current trend for a pop-up restaurant is gradually making its way over to West London (thankfully) – and even better news is that the company When Mac Met Cheese have a new temporary residence on Porchester Road until early June!

Calling itself the first ‘Mac and Cheese (and Cocktail)’ restaurant in London, my sister and I had to check it out with our love of both of these things bordering on obsessive. Armed with our men, we set off on a (hopefully) delicious double date.

The restaurant has a retro-inspired decor, all skulls and crossbones mixed with large-scale film set lighting and pine wood furniture. Greeted by the really welcoming waiters we settled in and scoffed excitedly over the very short and effective menu and downed a couple of the utterly delicious Elderflower and Apple Martinis in the process. The ex-sous chef from The Ivy has now joined the team and so this mac and cheese has really stepped up it’s game.

There’s basically just one starter – two choices of mac and cheese balls. One’s truffle and wild mushroom and the other jalapeño and cheese; both of utterly delicious and were devoured in seconds.

Next up is the main event and there are three options for your mac and cheese dish – we ordered all three but my favourite was Carlos the Cactus, with just the right hint of spice.

For pudding there’s just one choice – DEEP FRIED OREOS. I didn’t know what to expect from these, but they were utterly delightful; somewhere between a warm cookie and a sugary pastry taste. You get 4 portions of these for £3 which is really affordable and a perfect way to finish off your meal.
