UNITE & TYPE

Seeing as Notting Hill has so many wonderful shops, ranging from boutique clothes brands, pet stores, vintage music and book shops and other unique independent stores, I’m going to focus on one a month to tell you about as a new series on the blog called Shop of the Month.

April’s offering is a real gem of a shop that I’m excited to share with you. Playing to two loves of mine, my beloved collecting of mugs and love of printed images, is UNITE & TYPE. Located just off Golborne Road, it’s a gorgeous, quirky shop that’s filled with everything a print fan will love – quirky sayings on cups, coasters and cards. And the pièce de résistance – a full working printing press at the back of the store that hosts weekly printing press classes. I’m yet to do an actual class but it’s firmly on my ‘to do list’.

The shop might be filled with everything you could need to enjoy the ‘English eccentric’ inside all of us, but even better is the shop’s personalisation service. Through their website you can personalise a huge range of ceramics – everything from signs, mugs, espresso cups, piggy boxes and dog bowls. Such a wonderfully personal idea for presents – you can find all of the info HERE.

The letterpress courses are a great idea for anyone interested in design and crafts. Included in the One Day Introduction course (which costs about £150), you not only learn the basics of letterpress printing, how to set type and to print your own design, but you get to take away 3 pieces of your own design on Somerset paper. A lovely addition to your home, where you can see a bit of your own creativity hung on the walls. You can also just choose to dip your toe in the letterpress printing pool, by going to one of their bi-monthly 2 hour workshops (these cost around £50).
