The Seychelles

Welcome to Para, Para, Paradise…

This post is long overdue! As the winter nights draw in here in London, it’s got me to reminiscing about sunnier climes and to re-living an incredible once-in-a-lifetime holiday I went on earlier this year. So, I’m taking you back in time now to April, when I was lucky enough for one of my favourite couples to get hitched in the incredible island of La Digue in the Seychelles. The boy and I didn’t even hesitate in accepting the invitation and turning the wedding into a wonderful holiday with friends and family – and what an amazing experience it was.

We began our holiday by spending a couple of nights in Mahe – the main island you fly to in the Seychelles, where we acclimatised, enjoyed the sea views and the astonishing sunsets and drank too much SeyBrew and natural Coconut water…

Next up was to join all of our friends and family in the tiny island of La Digue – a short ferry ride away (about 1 hour). I fell in love with this island, where cars are so rare that all visitors to the island rent bikes from the local bike shops and cycle around – not a care in the world but where to spot the next turtle, what beach to lie out on and what cocktail to order from the bar at Le Domaine de L’Orangeraie.

Tash and Stu, our friends who were getting married, were incredibly generous and to get us all in the mood for the wedding, they hired a huge catamaran for the immediate wedding party for an entire day – a total highlight of the trip. If you’re heading to the islands, you should definitely hire a boat and get out on the water for some of the most breath-taking views you can imagine.

The wedding itself was the most magical day, prefixed by a night with the girls in the Penthouse of the incredible L’Orangerie. The bride and groom enjoyed every second – the most important thing! The ceremony was a mix of traditional and filled with Seychellois culture, such as guests being led to the reception in ox carts and the first dance being a Sega classic that had all the guests up dancing along – an incredible evening.

April was an amazing time to head to the Seychelles with weather being in the 30 degrees on average. Flights can be taken from London airports to Mahe Island Airport, where there are many other islands you could explore – the world is your oyster!

Hopefully this post has taken you away to a place other than the rainy climes of the UK and given some food for thought for all you fellow wanderlusters out there 🙂
