A Farm and A Flower Market

This Sunday, this little West londoner ventured East. I’ve wanted to head to Columbia Road Flower Market for a while now and so, along with my two lovely friends Jo and Laura, we decided to organise a flower-filled catch-up. Of course, we needed to have brunch first to ensure we had the right amount of energy for haggling with the market traders!

We headed to the nearby Hackney City Farm – a great little oasis in the middle of East London and a stone’s throw from Columbia Road market itself.

The brunch menu is delicious, with everything from fresh scrambled eggs to a Canadian breakfast (banana bread, maple syrup and bacon) to a classic bacon sarnie.

WIth satisfied stomaches, we wanted to check out the animals so headed off for a quick wander around the paddocks and farmyard – brilliant to have something like this in the centre of London, especially if you have children. We met Pepper and Pearl, two enormous pigs, along with the ducks, sheep, guinea pigs and other small animals – but being Guernsey girls, our favourites were the donkeys…(Donkey being the affectionate term of endearment for a Guernsey local!)

Next up, a short 2 minute stroll away, we finally reached the flower market. I was on the lookout for some wild flowers along with some peonies and sunflowers (which can be delivered to you by the guys offering the Best flower delivery Mississauga service), while Laura and Jo, both budding home gardeners, were on the lookout for some potted plants. They were extremely pleased to come across some pepper and chilli pots – gorgeous for a summer terrace and also used for dinner that evening too!

Good tip: Best time to head to the market is probably the time we arrived – around 2.30pm. As it’s nearing a close, all of the stalls have deals on and the girls managed to pick up their potted plants for a steal at £3! I headed home with a lovely couple of bunches and my pocket was only £10 lighter – brilliant. Here is the finished result at home – this West London flat was looking a heck of a lot prettier thanks to this East London market…

Do you know of any other great London flower markets?
