Open Air Cinema: London

Summer seems to finally be here – and luckily for Samsung! They have designed a programme of open air cinema pop-ups working in partnership with some of London’s best outdoor cinema production companies, enabling film lovers alike to enjoy movies in the current sunny climates in some of London’s coolest locations. What’s not to love about this?!

Nomad Cinema, Rooftop Film Club London and The Luna Cinema will be setting up screenings across London venues and other spots across the UK to screen classics with everything from The Lost Boys to Les Miserables, from Life of Pi and Django Unchained to Donnie Darko, Romeo and Juliet and Casablanca!.

Nomad Cinema

If you’re a cinema lover and want to enjoy some of your favourite on-screen moments in a new and exciting outdoor environment, then Samsung’s three months of Pop Up Cinema is for you. Below is a quick overview of some of the delights you can expect from the three partners but do check the websites for all other details and to book – tickets always sell out super quickly for these events so get booking!

The Nomad – Various Venues, 14 July – 21 Sept. All details HERE

The Nomad roaming cinema pops up in parks and gardens all over London bringing with it a wonderfully and thoughtfully curated array of films, each suited to the location. The Horniman Museum becomes home to Latin American cinema with Central Station and The Motorcycle Diaries; and Brompton Cemetery will be a brilliantly spooky venue for showings of Donnie Darko and Edward Scissorhands, amongst other things.

The Luna Cinema – Various Venues, 21 July – 29 Sept. All details HERE

The Luna Cinema will be using some of the most unusual (and grandest) places to watch a film, with Kensington Palace’s The Orangerie, Hampton Court Palace, Pinewood Studios, Kew Garden and one of London’s hiddent gems, the Brockwell Lido among its venues. It’s also bring its selection of movies to the gorgeous Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre and Opera Holland Park. The programme is a mix of popular staples – from Top Gun and Breakfast at Tiffany’s – and recent releases like Skyfall, Argo and Life of Pi (which will look incredible on the outdoor big screen!).

The Rooftop Film Club – Various Venues until 30 Sept. All details HERE

The father of roof-top cinema, they have now added even more London urban locations to their portfolio – Peckham’s ultra hit Bussey Building and Netil360 in London Fields will now join Kensington Roof Gardens and the Queen of Hoxton in playing host to the film club’s all summer-long season of new, old and cult films. You can sit on chairs at these screenings and if needed, are given wireless headphones and even a cheeky poncho if the weather gets a bit chilly. Food and drink are available to buy too but these sell out weeks in advance so get in there quick!

Rooftop Cinema Club

(I’ll be there without a doubt for the Romeo and Juliet screening – Leo on a summer evening, is there anything better in life?)

Prices vary but as a rule they’re not cheap, with some tickets priced at £16.50 a pop but it’s a great experience! I’m drawn to the ET screening at Opera Holland Park and the Shakespeare in Love at Regents Park Open Air Theatre – see you there 🙂

I love Open Air cinemas – Last time I went to one was in Greece and it was the crime-thriller film with Mr Depp!! We (mother & I) sat with views of the Acropolis in the background, quite stunning and surreal but good fun too xo
