NYC Prep

I’m lucky enough to be heading back to New York this week for work. In prep for another visit to one of my favourite cities, I thought i’d let you in to what I’ll be doing in advance, as I get ready for immersing myself in the Big Apple’s way of life…

  • Re-reading Edith Wharton’s Age of Innocence

ageofinnocence

Set in upper class New York City of the 1870’s, Wharton became the first female writer to win the Pulitzer Prize with this book – her 12th novel. Questioning the morals of the upper class society of the time, it’s also a wonderful depiction of the era in the city, making a great comparison for then-and-now.

  • Watching Season 2 of HBO’s Girls – my favourite show, set in my favourite city, by one of my favourite writer/performers; what better inspiration?

  • Listening to Jay-Z. Quintessential Brooklyn.

I’ll be sure to blog about my short 4 day trip once back, letting you into the hidden NYC and Brooklyn finds I’m sure to come across on my trip.
